Did you know that as many as six million people propose on the 14th of February, making it one of the hottest day of the year to propose? There is no day quite as significant and romantic as Valentine’s Day to ask for the hand of that special someone.
A proposal is certainly just as important as the actual wedding – if not, more important. After all, it shows a guy’s desire and commitment to settle down with their other half for a lifetime. It certainly takes a great leap of faith and tons of effort for a guy to plan the proposal from scratch, to keep it a secret from their girlfriend, and to finally muster enough courage to pop the question in the most romantic way possible.
So you’ve bought your ring and Valentine’s Day is just a couple of days away and you still cannot decide a venue? Before you jump straight in to plan the specifics, it is important you pick the venue that suits the atmosphere you are going for.
Outdoors or Indoors? Contemporary speakeasy bar? Oriental restaurant? Chic hotel? Your venue can inspire your style and theme, and possibly eliminate some!
If you need some inspiration and want something different from the usual suspects, here are some of our favourites:
Aura @ National Gallery
Located at the top of the newly-opened National Gallery in Central Singapore, Aura offers a panoramic view of the city skyline. It’s posh interior definitely sets the mood right for a chic, sophisticated dinner, followed by after-hours drinks at the sky lounge.
What better way to pop the question, than with the Singapore Flyer, the Esplanade, and MBS as your backdrop?
ilLido at the Cliff
Surrounded by the South China Sea and lush tropical greenery, the newly-renovated ilLido at the Cliff provides exquisite Italian cuisine, and a breathtaking view from the top of Sentosa Island. If the bustling city is not your thing, this is the place for you.
Beaulieu House
Perfect for nature enthusiasts, Sembawang Park is situated in the north of Singapore and houses one of the few remaining natural beaches of Singapore where you can stroll with your girlfriend and enjoy the gentle sea breeze and sound of the waves at sunset.
Within the tranquil park is Beaulieu House, a colonial bungalow that is perched atop a hill and overlooking the ocean, offering stunning views. After a romantic stroll and dinner at such an intimate setting, she is all set to say “Yes.”
Open Farm Community
Open Farm Community features an open concept kitchen and restaurant and celebrates the local spirit. We love the chill-lax atmosphere of being surrounded by vegetable farms, and fun activities like ping pong and lawn bowling. This is the go-to place if you’re looking for a laid-back setting to ease off the anxiety of asking one of the most important questions of your life.
Wheeler’s Yard
Wheeler’s Yard is a good choice for boyfriends looking at a rustic industrial themed proposal.
Housed within a spacious industrial warehouse, Wheeler’s Yard offers Instagram-worthy backdrops and anything from brunch to dinner. The rustic industrial interior design also creates a cozy ambience for your proposal to be photographed and documented.
Sopra
Located just off Orchard Road, Singapore’s first and only Sardinian Restaurant is surely a convenient yet unique place to go to after work. Be ready to be greeted by marquee signs and intricate hand painted tiles covering the floor. Antique and vintage furnitures used in the restaurant as an ode to the glamorous days of post war Italy sets the ambience right for a lovely date together with weekly live entertainment from Wednesday to Saturday, after 7.30pm.
Waterfront Promenade @ Marina Bay
The 3.5km Waterfront Promenade is right at the Marina Bay area, connecting countless of attractions around the Bay, making them easily accessible by foot. And the best part? The view you get when dining in one of the many 5-star restaurants around the bay is the exact same stunning view of the Singapore night skyline you get on the Promenade – only that it’s absolutely free.
A stroll along the boardwalk after dinner and a proposal by the Waterfront, accompanied by the daily lights and water show sound like a solid plan.
Henderson Waves
Situated along Mount Faber Park, Henderson Waves is most ideal for the sporty couple. Our favourite spot has got to be the Henderson Waves Bridge, Singapore’s highest pedestrian bridgewith a lot of privacy and space to rest – and propose. Go on a hiking trail with your wife-to-be, take in the rich surroundings and go down on one knee against the sunset on this beautiful bridge.
